The art of porn, or the porn as art?
For those who just don`t like the sound of porn, why not try an "art film?" 9 Songs was touted as an art film, but it actually just has a whole lot of sex. The story revolves around Matt and Lisa,a young couple who are drawn to each other by their passion for music. In the course of one year, they attend rock concerts and travel together: their story unfolds in a series of rock songs- a total of nine, which explains the title. The film raised controversy at the time of its release because of its explicit sexual content-unlike many sex- oriented films, which coyly stop and pumping scenes and frontal nudity. 9 Songs dishes out sex in generous doses. There`s some fellatio, cunnilingus and even penetrative sex, enough to satisfy the most curious voyeurs. However, the difference lies in the film`s treatment of sex. Some say that "it`s all in the direction, baby," and this film, beautifully cinematographed as it is, shows you how you wish sex would be. Soft flesh tones and languid camera movements hit all the right notes: desire, seduction, lust, wanton, longing-but never just dirty sex. After all, sex isn`t just about gyrating and gymnastics, but the emotions that are being bundled with it, like it or not. And 9 Songs shows every part of the package. It`s a glorified take one sex, but one that you wouldn`t mind watching over regular wham-bam-thank-you-ma`am porn fare.
